PRACTICE AREAS / The Individual Client Services Practice

The Firm’s Individual Client Services Practice provides representation to individuals in connection with their business and personal matters. The Firm’s Individual Client Services Practice provides counsel in the following areas: Director and Officer Liability, Employment, Bankruptcy, Trusts and Estates, Immigration, Real Estate and Matrimonial, Family Law and General Civil Matters.

DIRECTOR AND OFFICER LIABILITY

In conjunction with its Corporate Practice, the Firm provides advice to directors and officers of companies, when such individuals seek outside representation beyond what the companies with which they are affiliated may provide. In such instances, the Firm may advise them of the scope of their fiduciary obligations under applicable statutes and case law.

The Firm’s Litigation Practice may represent directors and officers in actions brought by companies or shareholders against them individually for breach of their fiduciary duties.

EMPLOYMENT

In conjunction with its Corporate Practice, the Firm provides advice to top-level management and consultants seeking to evaluate their rights and obligations under employment agreements. The Firm also assists clients in the negotiation of employment agreements and provides advice with regard to company incentive programs, including stock option plans and profit-sharing arrangements.

The Firm, through its Litigation Practice, may represent top-level management and consultants in connection with disputes with their current or former employers.

BANKRUPTCY

The Firm provides advice to individuals seeking the protection of the U.S. bankruptcy laws. Through its Litigation Practice, the Firm may appear on behalf of individuals in bankruptcy court proceedings.

TRUSTS AND ESTATES

The Firm provides advice in connection with estate planning. Particularly for high net worth individuals, the Firm may work in conjunction with the client’s financial advisors.

The Firm establishes trusts, including living or revocable trusts, and prepares wills for its individual clients. For some clients, pre-nuptial agreements and ante-nuptial agreements also may be prepared as part of the personal representation.

The Firm advises on matters of health law and the long-term care of its individual clients. The Firm prepares living wills and health care proxies on behalf of individual clients.

IMMIGRATION

The Firm provides advice in connection with immigration law matters. The Firm advises immigrants (those who intend to remain in the U.S. permanently) and non-immigrants (those who intend to return to their country of origin after a relatively short period of time). The Firm works with clients seeking visas, green cards and citizenship.

REAL ESTATE

The Firm provides advice in connection with the purchase of residential real estate.  The Firm represents buyers and sellers in transactions involving houses, cooperative apartments and condominiums.

MATRIMONIAL, FAMILY LAW AND GENERAL CIVIL MATTERS

The Firm represents individuals in connection with a variety of general civil matters, including, among others, matrimonial and family law matters.  Many of these general civil matters are handled in conjunction with the Firm’s Corporate Practice, Intellectual Property Practice and Litigation Practice. The Firm does not represent individuals in any criminal matters.
